In my recent series RGMBW, I have been focusing on patterns, connecting them with other stylistically diverse paintings through recurring shapes and a restricted pallet. I have only been using the same red, green, magenta, black and white color scheme – RGMBW is the acronym. Painting patterns creates for me an “internal order” through repetition and the development of skill. A limited color scheme suggests a stable framework and foundation. I am referencing many visual realms, from optical formalism to religious ornament, from scientific illustration to wallpaper: these paintings inhabit multiple positions simultaneously. I employ systems that are at once mathematical and instinctive, that follow logic in combination with emotion. To the main core of pattern paintings, I am juxtaposing still life, expressive abstraction and figurative painting.” (via)
